150 pound dumbbell bench press (failed attempt 2)

attempt with 150 pound dumbbells. This time I duct taped two 10 pound and 5 plate pounds on the 120 dumbbells at my gym. I managed to actually push the dumbbells just a little bit maybe 1 inch tops. I think in the future I can get these. Duct taping was annoying as hell, I may just buy my own adjustable dumbbells like the ones andrew have, and just do max dumbbell presses at home, since I can find no gyms that go above 120s in any other gyms. … 150 pound dumbbell bench press (failed attempt 2) …

andrew you did the 130sx7 i suspect 150s are right around the corner pal.

i dont think theres anybody out there who thinks 150 pound dumbells i neach hand looks easy lol. most dumbells past 100s at commercial gyms just get dusty from noone using them.

Public gyms have pros and cons, i just make do with what is offered to me, fuck what other think, while they tell there stories and give me looks, I will use that time to get stronger, while they just joke around and play around with the kiddie weights, one upside is I feel like am one of the strongest guys in my gym, it feels awesome haha!

I might consider training at home if i had more equipment, I am pretty much a solo lifter as it is, but I enjoy getting spots on my bench press sets.

OMG that was a dude? LOLL poor guy.
Anyway, yeah, public gyms sucks sometimes, that’s why i train at home.

  8. WeightLifterNerd says:

yeah my best flat bench is 325, so that is only 25 pounds less then the dumbbells combined, I do not arch on dumbbell presses.

That was actually a guy believe it or not, he was giving me looks like wow holy shit thats a lot of weight! He probably will tell stories but oh well, sometimes have to look ridiculous to get stronger especially in commercial gyms where equipment can be limited lol, like the fact i had to tape on dumbbell plates on the 120 dumbbells. My gym only goes up to 120s.

  9. tlast2012dude says:

thats a BIG attempt right there, you are almost trying your 1RM in barbell bench press with dumbells. 1RM barbell is always higher than 1RM with dumbells.

Look the girl in the background, lol i bet she will tell what she saw as a funny story or something. Take care of your reputation in the gym! xD

Yeah even thought I failed it was still a slight improvement over my last attempt at the 150s, last time I couldn’t even get the dumbbells into place and press them up at all, the adjustable are just so awkward to get into place, but these dumbbells were not to tough to get into place because the plates i taped on were almost the size of the regular 10 pound and 5 pound plates that are on dumbbells usually. I think I am good for 145s at least.

Nice attempt bro…it’s a lot harder than it looks!

Sounds like a good idea man.

  13. WeightLifterNerd says:

I think all gyms should have some sort of adjustable dumbbells, all the gym has to do is buy some adjustable dumbbells and some plates, and in the end probably would save them way more money then buying dumbbells already with the weight on.

  14. IncredibleHulkRobert says:

The gym I go to used to go up to 80 pounds, now it’s down to 60 pounds. Now that’s annoying. I too wish there were heavier dumbbells, because the max dumbbells in my gym are too light when I do those exercise.

  15. WeightLifterNerd says:

yeah my gym only goes up 120s it really is annoying, I may just buy my own adjustable dumbbells in the future, because I haven’t had any luck of finding gyms with heavier dumbbells.

  16. WeightLifterNerd says:

next time i think I work my way up properly and do the 140s and 145s first before doing 150s next time, I just wanted another go at these, I like to try maxing at a certain weight more then once sometimes. Next time I may buy adjustable dumbbell like you have, because duct taping weights and the adjustable dumbbells they have are quite umcomfy, annoying, and time consuming. I did 135 x 3 back in november when I was not quite as strong as I was now, so I figured maybe I might be good for 150s.

I’ve never even tried to get the 150 in place. I gonna do the 140 first before I even try the 150lbs. nice attempt Jared. If you get the dumbbells like i have they are easier to do then the taped ones.

  18. 409man says:

Those look pretty monstrous man, my gym doesn’t have anything over 65…lol but I venture out to World Gym or the other ones to play with 90s and up. I have never attempted anything over 120 though! Keep at it and I know that 150 will fall soon!

I think I do fair on dumbbell flat benching considering i never even do them, I usually always do flat bench instead for mid chest, and then rotate dumbbell presses or flyes on incline and decline to hit my lower and upper chest. Although I replaced dumbbell presses with cambered bar incline and flat bench for now, and rotate between some sort of fly movement on incline or decline, so pretty much I have done no type of dumbbell press movement for chest, only dumbbell shoudler presses.

  20. WeightLifterNerd says:

yeah but the 120s for 5 and the 105s x 11 were done last june, and the 135s x 3 were done on November 28, so I had gotten strong during those past months, where as the 105s and 120s were done pretty close to each other.

The 135s were intended only for one rep that day I did them but ended up hitting 3. The way dumbbell works for me is every dumbbell i jump up is two less reps for me, once I hit 140s for 5 and 145s for 3 I should have the 150s for 1 is my guess.

  21. rctriplefresh5 says:

of course you did fair with these how many people can even deadlift 150 dumbells jared. you can almpost press them! stop being so hard on yourself.

ill just be hard on for you instead ;)

  22. rctriplefresh5 says:

you were doing 120s for 5 and 135s for 3? you barely lost any reps there!

  23. WeightLifterNerd says:

I may just buy my own dumbbell in the future, like the ones andrew have then try 140s, 145s, then 150s and go from there. In all honesty though considering I haven’t been any sort of dumbbell pressing exercises for chest in the past 4 weeks, I think I did fair with these, I didn’t even expect to push them up as high as I did, the cambered bar is sort of a good replacement I think as cambered bar and dumbbell both allow you to go deeper then with a barbell.

  24. WeightLifterNerd says:

yeah that sounds about right for me, everytime I go up in dumbbells I always lose 2 reps usually. I was doing 105s for 11, and 120s for 5, and 135′s for 3. I don’t really focus much on dumbbell right now I replaced them with cambered bar for now as I want to focus more on flat and incline barbell, this was just a max attempt test just for the hell of it, also my gym doesn’t have dumbbell that go any higher then 120 unless I resort to more taping plates on or the adjustable uncomfy dumbbells.

  25. WeightLifterNerd says:

I am somewhat, although that is not my focus, andrew I think has me beat hands down for reps, although I think I go alil lower then him on my reps, but just alil, I still think even if he went my depth he could still get me, andrew does dumbbells a lot more often too, I stuck to cambered bar instead for the past 4 weeks, so i consider this decent considering I never do flat dumbbell bench presses, I use to rotate between incline and decline dumbbell presses before though.
