Resistance Is Good! Resistance Training Can Increase Your Weight Loss
Resistance training is a form of strength training in which exercises are performed against a specific opposing force. This helps define and build muscles and can contribute to weight loss.
There are two different types of exercise positions within the resistance-training realm. One type is the isotonic exercises, which are movements of a specific body part moving against a force, and isometric exercises are movements in which the body (or part of the body) is holding still against the force.
There are different ways in which resistance training can be performed for your overall health and well being. For instance, weight lifting, which is a large part of resistance training, can help you. These are the best type of resistance exercises, which help you build muscle. In fact, you can perform nearly your entire workout with a pair of adjustable dumbbells (the smaller ones that look like miniature barbells) and set of weight disks.
Many people start out using weight disks that are as light as five pounds each. You can also find some that are less than five pounds each, but these are usually ones that are not adjustable or interchangeable (There are two types of dumbbells, one is the fixed weight kind, and the other is the already mentioned adjustable kind). Both of these types have a specific purpose, which is to provide you with a force that you can work against to increase skeletal muscle strength and size.
Usually in order to lose weight while engaging in resistance training, it is recommended that you combine the weight training with certain aerobic exercises. Many times you can jog with weights, or complete certain step routines with them. In order to make it easier for you to use weights during high-impact exercise such as aerobic routines or jogging, it is usually easier to use weights, which you can fasten to your wrists and/or ankles.
Other types of resistance training include exercise machines, both those that have weights on them and those that do not. The ones with the weights on them add an extra force in which to help you work up a sweat quite a bit faster, depending upon the speed in which you do them. A unique type of device that is much like an exercise machine is the swimming machine, which is a small basin of water in which the user swims in place, similar to how someone would if that person was fighting for his or her life.
Other exercise devices that provide a degree of resistance are stair climbing machines and even treadmills. Any exercises where you are completing rapid motions within a confined area can not only help you with muscle formation but it can also help you burn excess calories. The degree of resistance of each type of exercise machine varies, and also depends upon how the user sets the resistance level on each machine.
Another type of resistance is the use of the humans own body weight. The most common example of this is when a person does push-ups. These can be the full push-ups in which the knees do not touch the ground, the half push-ups in which the knees touch the ground, and an alternative style pushup, in which a person starts out with their buttocks to the ground sitting up. These help build a persons arm muscles.
Sit-ups and crunches (like sit-ups but only lifting your head half way, often with your hands behind your back) often provide an amount of resistance to your abdominal area. Again, any type of resistance exercise can help you lose weight if you are performing them at a fast enough pace in which you will be able to burn calories and fat.
All of the above exercises should be performed at 60 percent of the persons maximum heart rate level. This is measured by taking your pulse and knowing what your pulse rate should be for someone your age, weight, and health. You can find free pulse rate calculators online, and you can find ways to figure out what your ideal pulse rate mathematically. You can also either check your pulse while you are exercising by hand or with the use of a pulse rate indicator.
You will benefit from any combination of the above exercises. If you are exercising for the first time in a long time you will need to take some precautions, however. Make sure that you start out slowly. This means you need to complete stretching exercises of all your major muscle groups (torso, legs, neck, arms, etc.) and then start your exercises at a walking pace, and gradually move faster and faster. Soon you will be working your body at a steady and moderate to brisk pace, and this is when you will burn the most calories.
If you follow all of the above tips while establishing a proper resistance training routine you will be able to lose weight before you know it. Furthermore, you will have a better quality of life.

How To Use Dumbbell Hand Grip Adjustments To Maximize Your Weight Training Routines
In the pursuit of your physical goals you must always be receptive to education. If an opportunity to improve your training presents itself grasp it, learn it and apply it. Sometimes it is huge change such as a brand new training program other times it is a subtle concept like the one I will discuss today.
Once you have taken your physique to a respectable level you need to pay attention to these sort of details to fine tune the various areas of your body you consider to be sub-par. There will be sections of your body that lag compared to your dominant muscle groups. Therefore you must devise strategies to create symmetry and balance throughout. This will make you stand out from the crowd.
By adjusting something as basic as the hand grip on a dumbbell you can perfect the execution of an exercise. This will increase the specificity of the movement, which means the target muscle will be stimulated to its full potential. That is an unstoppable step forward.
I won’t go through the full exercise technique descriptions as they are fully explained at Global Weight Training. Only the hand grip adjustments will be discussed.
The Exercises…
1. ALL DUMBBELL LATERAL RAISE MOVEMENTS
Change – Hold the back of the dumbbell so that the little finger is against the outside plate. Let the front of the dumbbell rotate forwards slightly as you lift it.
Result – The lateral deltoid (side of the shoulder) will move into a position where it will become the prime mover. This will reduce the involvement of the anterior deltoid (front of the shoulder) and broaden your shoulders.
2. ALL DUMBBELL CHEST PRESS MOVEMENTS
Change – Hold the inside of the dumbbell so that the thumb is against the inside plate.
Result – The dumbbell will tilt outwards slightly aligning the wrist and hand into a safe and comfortable position.
3. ALL DUMBBELL SHOULDER PRESS MOVEMENTS
Change – Hold the inside of the dumbbell so that the thumb is against the inside plate.
Result – The dumbbell will tilt outwards slightly aligning the wrist and hand into a safe and comfortable position.
4. ALL DUMBBELL BICEP CURL MOVEMENTS (DOES NOT INCLUDE HAMMER CURLS)
Change – With palms facing up hold the inside of the dumbbell so that the little finger is against the inside plate. Let the thumb and dumbbell rotate outwards.
Result – The biceps will move into their position of greatest contraction. This will cause the greatest amount of muscle fiber innervation building peak and volume.
Experiment with these techniques for the greatest results in your training. For any more information contact us at Global Weight Training where your questions are important to us and will be answered as soon as possible. Train hard and smart!

Improve Your Dumbbell Training With Kettlebell Program Design
Dumbbell training can be greatly improved by applying kettlebell program design. Dumbbells are one of the most effective pieces of equipment in your physical training toolbox. Unfortunately, most men and women don’t use dumbbells to their full potential, and miss out on the true muscle building, fat burning and fitness improving benefits. Ironically, the rise in popularity of kettlebell training has provided the means for resurrecting dumbbell exercise.
For those of you who don’t know, a kettlebell is basically a cast iron ball with a handle. They have been used by Russians and strongmen across the world for centuries for effective physical training. There is no doubt in my mind, this barbaric tool is brutally effective.
But, the greatest contribution of training with kettlebells is not its shape. You see, kettlebells are not adjustable. They are a solid mass of unchanging weight. (Obviously, you can get kettlebells in different weights, but workout can be conducted with one kettlebell and one weight.) This seems to go against popular exercise programs that change weights according to the muscle group they are training.
So, can you really get a great workout with only one weight? Absolutely!
Using only one weight, people training with kettlebells are forced to use their imagination and ingenuity to create workout programs to improve the entire body. (This is similar to the challenge facing bodyweight calisthenics, where the weight of your body stays the same.) And, the results are spectacular. Using only one weight and one kettlebell you CAN simultaneously improve all-around fitness, build a strong, athletic body and burn off ugly, unwanted fat.
But as much as I love kettlebell training, I’m here today to talk about improving your dumbbell training. The fact is, most people don’t have access to kettlebells, but DO have access to dumbbells. So, why not use the effective workout methods designed for kettlebells with dumbbells?
You see, the effectiveness of kettlebell training proves that the commonly help belief that you need a room full of equipment and a large quantity of different weights to create your best performance body. So, using the same methods of kettlebell training with dumbbells, you can get a great full body workout that improves muscular strength, power and endurance while SIMULTANEOUSLY boosting cardiorespiratory endurance and burning large quantities of fat.
So, here is what I suggest.
Stop thinking of you body as a combination of specific muscles. This is what bodybuilders do. They split the body into different muscles and try to target the muscles for maximum muscle growth. But I want you to start thinking of the body as a whole. And to train the body as a whole you need to use compound exercises than use as many muscles as possible to complete the exercise.
You see, fitness has nothing to do with muscle size. Fitness is a combination of cardiorespiratory endurance, strength, power, flexibility, speed, coordination, agility, balance, accuracy and toughness. And using only one dumbbell, of one weight, you can target all these physical abilities and create a performance body that not only performs great, but that looks great as well!
The effectiveness of kettlebell training is a mind opening experience. “Traditional” methods of using different weights to target different muscles are thrown out the window. Applied to dumbbells, kettlebell program design builds fit, lean, strong, athletic bodies.
