How do should I start off weight lifting?
My doctor suggested for me to try weight lifting to lose some weight but I don’t know what to do or how to start. Any tips on what I should use and a good work out?

What type of weight lifting gloves should I wear?
I’ve been lifting weights for a little while now, but I’m getting these tough calluses that my wife doesn’t like. Also, my hands sometimes give out before my arms do. Would weight lifting gloves help?
Also, I don’t want to look like a meathead. I remember reading somewhere about these gloves that only fit on the inside of your hands – they’re more like leather straps that go over the inside of your knuckles. Anyone have any idea what this could be? Or have other suggestions for weight lifting gloves that aren’t so dorky looking?

How long until I can see weight lifting results?
If I start lifting weights tomorrow (curls and lifting dumbbells above my head) and doing push ups, how long until I will be able to see results of bigger/more defined muscles.
I am not planning to do cardio btw. I’m of slightly above average weight, not fat.

What’s the difference between running shoes and weight lifting shoes?
I was looking online for some running shoes and came across weight lifting shoes and wanted to know what the difference was between the two. I run and weight and know that running shoes can better your performance by a ton when you run long distances but do weight lifting shoes do the same when lifting? If so how? How should I go about beginning weight lifting?
Up to this point I have just been doing push-ups, sit-ups, pull-ups in different hand positions, knee-ups, and dips. I have also been using the Perfect Push-Up.
I now want to get into weight lifting. Would it be okay to lift weights every other day or should there be a bigger gap? Can I do the same weightlifting workouts on days that I lift or must I do different workouts? Please explain.

What are the key weight lifting exercises to gain strength?
There seem to be a trillion different weight lifting exercises — many targeting every little muscle in the body. That’s great if one’s looking to be a bodybuilder, but I want to my improve overall strength. If I gain some muscle mass, great. But it’s not my first goal.

What kind of weight lifting simulates a bench press that I can do without a spotter?
I like to go to the gym alone. I am trying to develop my upper body. I am an extreme novice and know nothing about weight lifting. I would like to do an exercise that develops the chest. But I don’t like to work out with anyone else because the weight lifters scare me. I don’t need someone pushing me to do something that will hurt myself. And I don’t want to be humiliated because I have trouble lifting the bar without the weights.

Who makes the best adjustable dumbbells?
Im leaning toward the bowflex series of dumbbells… the powerblock look rediculous.. i currently have the gold gym adjustable dumbbells 5-50 lbs but Im still within the 30-day money back gaurantee. Any help is appreciated.
